Time Out of Mind
What can I say, I've been busy!
What can I say, I've been busy!
As the summer has unfolded, the Argus Review has seemingly done something positive for Australian Cricket; they've turned up a new batch of fast bowlers, a couple of opening batters, a new keeper, an official rotation policy and competent captain. They also seem to have some method to their madness, as I outlined here over a year ago.
But the summer has been, if not somewhat eventful, a little underwhelming (except, perhaps, for James Pattinson). The Indians aren't the force I thought they were in the longer form of the game and the limited overs stuff seems so inconsequential as to be disposable. I still watch most of the games, mind you, but I couldn't put my thoughts together well enough to write something decent.
Then the pre-season stories started turning up a little more regularly. And the memories of the unlikely glory of the 2011 Premiership got stirred. And Billie "Jimmy" Smedts became my favourite player I've never seen play. And a few drunken viewings of the 2011 Grand Final later and here we are, AFL (Pre) Season 2012.
To ease into it, Mrs Watson and I are going to live Tweet the Friday night triple-header between Geelong, Sydney and StKilda from Ethiad Stadium. (Granted, the first game, between Sydney and StKilda will probably be tweeted from some inner-city dive bar, but still...)
So if you're not on Twitter, in the immortal words of James Brayshaw, get around him!!

Happy New Year Captain. So you've pushed a single through extra cover and are on the board for 2012.
Ahh summer, so many Pies 2010 Premiers stickers, so much laughter from the joke that just keeps giving and never gets old.

Smedts' draft camp results were as follows:
1st in Agility Test – 7.90
7th in Kicking assessment – 23/30 63%
9th in 20m Sprint – 2.91
10th in Standing Vertical Jump – 63cm
oooooooh yeah....
Nice to have you back. And nice of you to drag Mrs Watson back, and how exactly did you do that? Wave a six pack of Carlton Draft at him?
Looking forward to staying up and tweeting at 2:30am Friday... or maybe I'll just read the tweets in the morning and save my Friday afternoons asleep at my computer for the season proper.

Anyone watch the games on Friday night?

Yep, Brad Orrens showed plenty and will hold his own until Vards and Daws are back to lend support - Westy was alright too. Some great application showed by others including The Hyphen (H-S), Motlop (looking better), Burbs and Jimmy (Smedts). With the retirements there are some big holes to fill, but I think Cats' fans can be very optimistic. Although, I'm wondering where the Dasher/Moons mongrel is going to come from?

Captain! Artist-formerly-known-as-contributing-'sidekick'! Geelong are going to start tapering off this year; we all know it, we might not want to discuss it, but if we're true Geelong-ites (for want of a shockingly horrific sounding & made-up term denoting association), we must accept that we can no longer climb the stairs to 'Escalations', get crazy drunk on Southern Comfort, then king-hit the over-dressed guy with leather shoes.... Without success, our levels of expectation must drop & your erratic & absentee postings must cease & be replaced with a higher level of (posting) consistency. No-one really cares about the topic; just get the responsive juices flowing - even if it means supporting the concept that Isaiah 'could' have been a good coach in some bizarro world where success was frowned upon.... After all, Brad Haddin is about to tour for Australia again, and he's a useless fucking troll..... surely bagging him here with some GFC references & interaction is better than not.....?
Yes Captain, it's time to stop mourning the loss of Whitney and Davy Jones, stop nuking your liver and find where you left that keyboard of yours. The season is nigh, the Cats are still frisky, there is still good times to be written about and turd sandwiches/douches to be ridiculed.

Geelong have the Tomahawk, it appears Melbourne were going for the Machete...
RIP Jim Stynes, a champion from when that word meant a whole lot more than it means today, a true gentleman of the game and an inspiration to many.

Do I have to be the first to make a comment or perhaps craft a metaphor in regards to Dermott Brereton hosting a show (again?).
Is this a carrot for Captain to put pen to paper on a new blog?
