News, Notes & Quotes? Not Bloody Likely
*Just a brief entry this week as it's been a busy time in The Captain's household. But fear not, Big League Little League is gearing up for an all out assault on the finals. Remember folks, keep that lid on, no matter what Mrs. “19-3” Watson tells ya.
Paul Chapman and Max Rooke will make their returns this week, Chappy straight into the seniors and, although Rooke will come back through the VFL, Lips has already stated that Jared/Max will be back in the seniors as soon as he’s ready.
Add to this the ‘3-headed ruck monster’ dilemma, the continued excellent VFL form of Josh Hunt, Tim Callan and others, and the Cats have what you’d call ‘good selection problems’. So, what is Geelong’s best team? Let’s have a look, shall we, starting with the 22 as named prior to last week’s game:
B: Darren Milburn – Matthew Scarlett – Tom Harley
HB: Andrew Mackie – Matthew Egan – David Wojcinski
C: James Kelly – Jimmy Bartel – Joel Corey
HF: Steve Johnson – Cameron Mooney – Joel Selwood
F: Shannon Byrnes – Nathan Ablett – Mathew Stokes
Foll: Steven King – Gary Ablett – Cameron Ling
Int: David Johnson, Mark Blake, Brad Ottens, Corey Enright
Although Varcoe took the place of Silkworm Blake, that’s a pretty strong line-up. I’d make the following adjustments, however, assuming that everybody is fit to play:
B: Darren Milburn – Matthew Scarlett – Tom Harley
HB: Andrew Mackie – Matthew Egan – David Wojcinski
C: James Kelly – Jimmy Bartel – Joel Corey
HF: Steve Johnson – Cameron Mooney – Joel Selwood
F: Paul Chapman – Nathan Ablett – Mathew Stokes
Foll: Brad Ottens – Gary Ablett – Cameron Ling
Int: Max Rooke, Mark Blake, Travis Varcoe, Corey Enright.
That looks about as good as it will get. Anyone think differently?

Other than a few positional changes (Chapman on the flank, Enright in the starting lineup), I reckon that's about as good as it gets.
The only question is, can Kingy prove his worth? Personally I thought his first game back was very serviceable, and last week was decent. But if we can get that 22 together, we'll be pretty unstoppable.
Heck, we're unstoppable with that one in. Bring it on.
King in for Blake (love the guy but I think King might be worth a bit more come finals time)
I've loved his addition this year but perhaps by the time finals come around Varcoe might be a bit tired - he looked it a bit a couple of weeks ago and was given a well deserved rest. Hunt or Tenace could possibly be the replacement but at this stage Varcoe would be in the best 22.
Also did you see the Selwood V Judd first year comparison on Monday night? Can't remember if it was On the Couch or Footy Classified. I've been looking for the statistics but its so hard to find the real tell-tale state like hard ball gets and clearances.

I agree with all of it but not sure about Varcoe. He seems to have got a bit lost over the last few weeks. Nathan Ablett also can get a bit lost when the ball is comming out of defecne. Having said that there is realy no one to replace them with so they would maintain their spots.
Im sure Bomber is only playing King till he gets injured and then he doesn't have to worry about 3 rucks. Who knows the Tigers might be stupid enough to take him. They took players like Ken "Superboot" Kingsley, Houlihan and Biddiscombe.
I would put Jared Rooke in for his brother Max. Jared was a lot tougher and didnt have stylised grungy hair or a 'tache to worry about. He was a lot harder at the ball. If Jared got injured, he didnt have to go to fancy German "specialists", he just went to the Corio medical clinic for a quick jab and played again the next week.
I agree with your side, Captain. And just to make things interesting, why not have them stay at the same end of the ground each quarter? Still looks awesome to me either way you look at it... (now where did I put that lid?)
